The brand-new Captain’s Villa Rouge is the latest addition to the luxury portfolio of Lošinj Hotels & Villas on Lošinj Island, off the coast of Croatia. Boasting an outstanding nautical past in a thoroughly modern interpretation. Located in stunning Čikat Cay, Captain’s Villa Rouge has five uniquely designed suites, all with stunning, bespoke Murano glass chandeliers and lighting. Elements of the interior reflect the sailing heritage of the property and include maritime details such as navigation and control devices, historic nautical charts, and ships’ lamps. The atmosphere of a naval captain’s house is completed by faithful copies of old sailing ships and pictures of seascapes.
The red exterior is reminiscent of the colour of Venetian palaces, which further emphasises the luxury and glamour of both the interior and exterior of the building. The garden is decorated with stone walls and terraces, and the whole ambience is enriched with dense Mediterranean vegetation. With luxurious equipment and furniture as well as many authentic naval exhibits, Captain’s Villa Rouge completely evokes the atmosphere of the houses of former seafarers.
Each of the bathrooms is opulently constructed from onyx in varying shades from a rich sea green to a deep midnight blue, reflecting the shades of the Adriatic Sea that hint at the treasures that lie beneath.
Custom-built Italian kitchens by Officine Gullo are on each of the three floors and each one is different. From a smaller, yet perfectly functional vibrant orange kitchen on the first floor to a bold red, fully equipped kitchen on the second floor. A bright yellow kitchen with an island, perfect for entertaining completes the open-plan living space on the third floor.
The bedrooms are decorated in varying shades of blue, reflecting the history of Captain’s Villa Rouge. Since its construction in 1897, owners have included ships’ captains and shipbuilders. The villa reflects this nautical renown as Lošinj became a shipbuilding power in the 19th century.
Among the meticulously restored exterior façades and interior décor are some stand-out touches: a huge wooden table in the outdoor kitchen, almost 20ft long, for 10 people, made in Belgian from one piece of wood, using a jointing technique with no nails.
The garden reflects the medicinal island vegetation. Ancient cypress trees, pines, and palm trees cast shade on the pool while fragrant Mediterranean plants such as lavender, rosemary, and immortelle follow the paved path around the villa. The terrace is shaded by lemon, mandarin, and clementine trees.
