FROM HERITAGE TO HEIGHTS: MONTENEGRO’S LOVĆEN CABLE CAR OPENS NEW VISTAS FOR TRAVELLERS

Aug 18, 2023

Regent Porto Montenegro, August 7, 2023 – Montenegro’s natural beauty is set to take centre stage as the Lovćen Cable Car project opened to visitors on 14th August 2023 and Regent Porto Montenegro is perfectly placed to ascend the grand mountains. The cable car embarks on a momentous journey, offering awe-inspiring views of one of the world’s most beautiful fjords. Transporting guests from the UNESCO World Heritage site, Kotor, to the majestic National Park Lovćen, this remarkable project promises an unforgettable experience for travellers from all corners of the globe.

The cable car’s route starts from Dub, situated in the municipality of Kotor, and ascends to the Kuk site on Mount Lovćen, standing tall at an altitude of 1,348 meters. With a projected capacity of 48 gondolas accommodating 1,200 passengers per hour, the cable car journey from the Dub station to the Kuk station takes less than 11 minutes. Adults can enjoy a one-way cable car ride for €13, while a round-trip ticket is priced at €23. Children are offered significantly lower ticket prices, with a one-way ride costing €7 and a round-trip costing €12. Children under two years old can ride for free.

Hotel Regent Porto Montenegro is a luxurious five-star hotel strategically located in the prestigious Porto Montenegro, a 30-minute drive from the UNESCO World Heritage site of Kotor and the cable car’s starting point, Dub.

“As a luxury hotel situated in the heart of Porto Montenegro, we are particularly excited about the economic and cultural benefits that the cable car will bring to the region. It will undoubtedly attract more travellers, further boosting the local economy and providing immense opportunities for the development of sustainable tourism practices. Additionally, the cable car project is set to create new employment prospects, supporting the livelihoods of our local communities,” stated Kai Dieckmann, General Manager of Regent Porto Montenegro.

The region of Boka Bay has a rich heritage and a fascinating culture ready to be discovered and the cable car provides a unique perspective of this jewel of the Adriatic coast. Guests staying at Regent Porto Montenegro can explore the nearby old town of Kotor, renowned for its well-preserved medieval structures, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1979. The Old Town of Kotor boasts a unique blend of Roman, Byzantine, Venetian, and Ottoman influences. Its impressive walls, dating back to the 9th century, stand as a testament to Kotor’s strategic importance throughout history.

The cable car’s destination is Kuk, nestled within the captivating Lovćen National Park – a breathtaking natural reserve situated in the enchanting southwestern region of Montenegro. Established in 1952, the park spans approximately 64 square kilometres and is celebrated for its diverse landscapes, abundant biodiversity, and profound cultural importance. The awe-inspiring Lovćen mountain stands as the park’s crowning jewel, reaching a staggering elevation of 1,749 meters above sea level, offering visitors unparalleled vistas of the surrounding picturesque terrain.

Visiting Lovćen National Park and the village of Njeguši provides a unique opportunity to immerse in Montenegro’s natural beauty and cultural heritage. Whether hiking to the Mausoleum of Petar II Petrović Njegoš, exploring the park’s diverse landscapes, or enjoying the hospitality of the local village of Njeguši, known for its traditional architecture, quaint stone houses, and production of Njeguški pršut (smoked ham) and Njeguški sir (cheese), the experience is sure to be unforgettable. Visitors can experience the 25km Serpentine Mountain Road connecting Njeguši and Kotor – a spectacular road built in 1884 that has gained admirers from construction industries all over the world.

The Kotor-Lovćen Cable Car is poised to transform the perception of Montenegro’s natural treasures, making them more accessible to tourists and locals alike. The cable car provides an opportunity for visitors to witness the unparalleled beauty of the national park, falling in love with Montenegro and its extraordinary landscapes.
