Sep 20, 2023

Tired of the grey, rainy UK skies? Cosmoledo Atoll is a true haven of tranquillity and innovation nestled in one of the most remote wildernesses in the Seychelles. An extraordinary destination for eco-conscious travellers seeking an unforgettable experience in one of the world’s most remote and pristine locations. Nestled within the heart of the Seychelles archipelago, Cosmoledo is a hidden gem that promises an unmatched adventure amidst untouched nature, while maintaining an unwavering commitment to conservation and sustainability. Eight sympathetically restored shipping containers provide guests with exceptional accommodation on one of the world’s most remote atolls. In a time where the world can feel small and digitally connected, Cosmoledo provides guests with the opportunity to disconnect from the outside world and discover a new side of the Indian Ocean. A genuine bucket list destination of leisure and adventure, Cosmoledo’s philosophy is a combination of sustainable travel with luxury accommodation, where guests can be assured of an unforgettable experience.

Located 1,030km from the mainland of Mahé, Cosmoledo Atoll is closer to Madagascar making it the point where the glorious marine life blends seamlessly with the sensational land-based flora and fauna found in this virgin territory. A remote and virtually untouched paradise, teeming with unspoiled beauty, offering a sanctuary for both land and marine wildlife. Accessible only by boat, guests embark on a mesmerizing journey to reach this secluded destination and immerse themselves in the raw, natural splendour that Cosmoledo offers.

CONSERVATION AND SUSTAINABILITY

Cosmoledo is committed to preserving this pristine environment for generations to come. Conservation and preservation are at the core of everything they do. From the design and construction of the camp, which adheres to the highest environmental standards, to the daily operations that minimize waste and energy consumption, Cosmoledo strives to leave no footprint. Moreover, Cosmoledo actively supports local conservation initiatives, working hand in hand with the Seychelles authorities to protect endangered species and preserve the delicate ecological balance of the atoll.

A HAVEN FOR BIRD WATCHERS-AN ORNITHOLOGISTS PARADISE

Cosmoledo forms part of the Outer Islands of the Seychelles, a species-rich habitat where guests can view and photograph a plethora of birds – many of which are rarely seen elsewhere in the world. This cluster of 21 islands is home to one of the greatest seabird colonies in the Seychelles including having the last viable population of Brown Booby and 15,000 pairs of nesting red-footed boobies on South Island. Bird watchers will be captivated by the avian wonders of Cosmoledo Atoll. An ornithologist’s paradise, guests can photograph over 250 species of birds, including sooty and greater crested terns, frigate birds, red-tailed tropicbirds, Madagascar cisticolas, turnstones, noddies, and Abbott’s Sunbird to name but a few!

EXCEPTIONAL MARINE LIFE, AS FEATURED ON BLUE PLANET II

To say the marine life around Cosmoledo Atoll is world-class would be an understatement. The rich marine biodiversity is unrivalled and even received the David Attenborough seal of approval as the region appeared in the renowned Blue Planet II. Cosmoledo Atoll is one of the largest atolls in the Seychelles, circling a lagoon that is eight metres deep and 16km wide. The sheer remoteness of the atoll and lack of boats in the lagoon due to fear of marooning enhances the biodiversity value meaning guests can enjoy a snorkelling, fishing, and diving experience like no other.

DIVE INTO NEW DEPTHS AND EXPERIENCE AN UNDERWATER WORLD LIKE NO OTHER

Whether a guest is a total novice or an expertly trained diver, they can discover the underwater wonderland, encountering colourful and diverse marine life as well as over 120 healthy species of coral. Cosmoledo Atoll is a diver’s dream come true. With some of the world’s most untouched and vibrant coral reefs, it offers a kaleidoscope of marine life that is unparalleled. Divers can explore a rich underwater ecosystem, encounter an abundance of fish species, including sting rays, rainbow runners, bluefin trevallies, horned ghost crabs, barracudas, wahoo, yellowfin tuna, and marvel at the majestic manta rays, sharks, and sea turtles that frequent these waters. Due to the remoteness of the island, new dive sites are always being discovered. The experienced dive guides lead unforgettable excursions, catering to divers of all skill levels, making Cosmoledo a must-visit destination for any enthusiast seeking an awe-inspiring and sustainable diving experience.

AN ANGLER’S DELIGHT, COSOMOLEDO IS THE GT (Giant Trevally) CAPITAL OF THE WORLD!

Fishing enthusiasts can set their catch (and release!) on the Big Five – milkfish, bonefish, permit, triggerfish, and Giant Trevally (Cosmoledo Atoll is the most prolific GT destination in the world). Not only is Cosmoledo Atoll a place to view the transcendent marine life, but it is home to the largest population of nesting Green Turtles – some guests are lucky enough to watch the hatchlings as they make their first trip to the sea.

When guests aren’t exploring the crystal-clear waves, Cosmoledo “Eco Camp” has a plethora of thrilling activities for guests to enjoy at their leisure. Visitors can partake in guided kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, coastal trails around Wizard Island, reef flats expeditions, sundowners on the beach, and the legendary flats lunch to create memories to last a lifetime.

Located on Wizard Island, the eight “eco-pods” accommodate 16 guests meaning visitors can expect a completely exclusive and secluded experience. Cosmoledo Eco Camp champions sustainability since the “Eco Pods” can be removed without leaving a trace but do not compromise on comfort or luxury. With panelled wooden floors, framed maps adorning the walls, elegant brass fittings, air-con, en-suite bathrooms, and comfortable beds each of the Eco Pods creates the feeling as though guests are fully immersed in the glorious environment whilst having home comforts. Guests need only open the retractable glass wall to instantly unveil the beckoning white-sand beaches gently lapped by azure waves. After a day of exploring the undisturbed region, guests can come together with other guests to discuss their daily activities over a delectable meal that uses the freshest of ingredients – including fruit, vegetables, and produce from Alphonse Island’s very own farm.
