The Old Ferry Inn, in the Cornish village of Bodinnick, home to the author Daphne du Maurier, is writing a new chapter in its 400-year history with the appointment of established luxury travel and lifestyle agency Storrington PR to handle its UK public relations.
Rooms at the Inn number 11, most with sensational harbour and sea views, and downstairs there is a dining room, a comfortable lounge, flooded with natural light, and a favourite hang-out cosy bar area with ships memorabilia and antique pictures of the area. The Old Ferry Inn on the banks of the River Fowey boasts stunning views overlooking the Bodinnick to Fowey ferry and features three terraced areas with a panoramic outlook towards Fowey, Polruan, and the English Channel. The Old Ferry Inn puts comfort, great cooking, charm, and personal service at the heart of its hospitality and prides itself on its dedication to local fine food from Cornish sources with all produced sourced within a 20-mile radius.
Ingredients such as smoked salmon are cured and smoked on-site and fish are brought straight to the Old Ferry Inn from Cornish day boats in the harbour, organic vegetables are delivered from nearby fields so vegetarians are amply supplied with delicious and creative culinary feats. Slow-roasted pork, lamb, and beef take pride of place on Sunday lunch menus but there is also a grazing menu at the bar featuring house-baked bread and smoked olives or Old Ferry Hogs sausage rolls. Superlative, honest cooking.
The upstairs terrace is open in all weathers for boat watching, sipping a refreshing drink, meeting friends, or relaxing in the coastal air. This luxurious home from home in a setting worthy of du Maurier’s most famous book, Rebecca, is contemporary, comfortable, and brings a warm and authentic Cornish welcome to all visitors. Outside there is a wealth of activities including the spectacular Hall Walk, where you can savour the still green waters of Pont Pill on a four-mile, circular amble of exceptional beauty through woodland and creek with striking views of Fowey Harbour. Take your dog along, too. Dogs at the Inn are not only welcome but they are also encouraged, as the resident Newfoundland, Archie is happy to share his home with new playmates.
Paul Worswick, director, and owner of the Old Ferry Inn brings a wealth of experience to the business, most recently as the owner of 55 Yards in Newquay and 5 Yards at the Boathouse in Newquay harbour in 2020. “I am delighted to direct the Old Ferry Inn into the next stage of its history,” he commented. “We are restoring her to her full glory and transforming her into one of Cornwall’s new top destinations.
“Our commitment to local produce, and our ability to make our food offering fresh and exciting with executive chef Kai Taylor, is drawing new customers for a true taste of Cornish fare. With Storrington PR onboard we are spreading the word about this beautiful property and looking forward to working with all our partners and suppliers to make the Old Ferry Inn a true exemplar of excellence in the south-west.”
“Storrington PR is delighted to be representing the Old Ferry Inn as it enters a new chapter. Steeped in history with charming, comfortable rooms and delicious local produce, we are truly excited to be working with Paul Worswick and his highly talented team.” Enthuses, Li Boatwright, owner, and founder of Storrington PR.
